2024 Paul P Conference Scholarship Application

News – February 27

The Galactosemia Foundation is pleased to accept applications for the 2024 Conference Paul P. Memorial Scholarship Fund. Established in honor of Paul Pruszynski, the scholarship is designed to provide financial assistance to teens and young adults with Galactosemia to help them attend the biennial Galactosemia Foundation Conference. Scholarship funds may be awarded to individuals who meet the criteria set forth below.

Eligibility. Scholarship fund recipients are limited to individuals who have been diagnosed with Galactosemia. Funds may be provided to cover a portion of the costs of one (1) caregiver of each recipient. In the event the recipient does not bring a caregiver, the recipient will not be entitled to the funds that would have otherwise been allocated to such a caregiver. While the scholarship is not awarded based on financial need, families with household incomes that easily afford travel costs are discouraged from applying.  The maximum award for any single family, including recipients and eligible caregivers, is $2,500.

Application Period. The application period will begin on March 1, 2024. The application period will close on May 31, 2024, or when the allocated Funds are depleted, whichever occurs first. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis. Applicants will be notified of the status of their application by June 15, 2024.

Requirements of Scholarship Recipients. Applicants must plan to attend all three (3) days of Conference programming, including, but not limited to, all General Session programming, one Breakout Session during each Breakout Session slot, and all nighttime social activities.

Allocation of Scholarship Funds. Recipients and caregiver, as applicable, are entitled to one (1) room at the hotel at which the Conference will be held. Recipients are prohibited from staying at any other hotel for the duration of the Conference. Recipients will not be reimbursed for costs incurred by staying at a different hotel. Hotel room costs for the recipient and their caregiver, as applicable, shall be billed to the Galactosemia Foundation master hotel account. This account covers the costs of the room, related taxes, and any applicable resort fee related to staying at the hotel. Recipients may be required to put down a credit card with the hotel at check-in to cover any incidentals that may be charged to their room in accordance with the procedures of the hotel. Recipients and caregivers, as applicable, will not be reimbursed by the Galactosemia Foundation for any such incidental charges, including the cost of room service.

Terminating the scholarship agreement. Recipients or caregivers not complying with the provisions of this agreement will render this agreement void and will amount to a forfeiture of any remaining scholarship funds that would have otherwise been disbursed to that individual. The termination of this agreement will automatically disqualify the recipient from future Paul P. Scholarship Funds.
